Putting Pets First: The Benefits of Independent Veterinary Practice

You may have seen recent news reports regarding some corporate veterinary practices setting targets to staff. I feel it’s time to explain and celebrate the fact we are Pontefract and Castleford’s only independent veterinary practice. This means we are not run by a large corporate company and this has a number of advantages.
We never set targets for our veterinary staff. We allow them to base their clinical recommendations on the findings of the consultation performed. They receive no financial incentive for recommending or performing a procedure and we feel this is the most transparent way to practice veterinary medicine.
We stock a wide range of medications and are able to select from the whole of the market. Our vets will choose the most effective treatment , not influenced by brand or corporate connection.
Should a referral be recommended the practice receives no income from the referral practice and does not charge for arranging the referral. As we are independent our vets have free reign to refer to whichever practice they feel most appropriate. We are not affiliated to any referral centre.
We are a family run practice and our origins date back over a hundred years. Should you need to raise a concern , this will be dealt with in-house by management, not losing the personal touch our customers deserve.
Our staff are our greatest asset, they share our passion for independence and clinical freedom and we hope this shines through.
Veterinary treatment is costly. We have large overheads and invest heavily in equipment and training to ensure we continue to offer the latest veterinary treatments and advancements, without having the deep pockets of other providers.
Being an independent practice is a declining business in this country and we feel this is a sad state of affairs.
We will be staying independent and want our customers to know this. We thank you for your continued support and hope you also take pride in supporting our independent practice and take reassurance in our business model of putting pets welfare above all else.
